Teilifís Greenwave

Tá áthas orainn go bhfuil Gerald Fleming, ó Met Éireann, agus Éanna Ní Lamhna ó Mooney goes Wild, ag glacadh páirte i mbliana arís.

Tairgfidh Gerald agus Éanna a léargais agus cuirfidh siad béim ar chomharthaí an earraigh is féidir leat a fheiceáil de réir mar a théimid ar aghaidh tríd an séasúr.

Tar ar ais go minic toisc go mbeimid ag cur físeáin nua leis an suíomh ar bhonn rialta.

Gearrthóg 10 - 09 Meitheamh

As Gaeilge

Description

For the last time this year, Gerald and Eanna give us their insights into the spring which has just passed. They reflect on the coldest and driest spring for many years and the major impact that this had on the species that were being observed.

Gearrthóg 9 - 24 Bealtaine

As Gaeilge

Description

Gerald visits the Botanic Gardens and tells us how this spring has been so different due to the exceptionally cold winter. Growth has been slower than usual, in some places three or four weeks behind what it would be normally.

Gearrthóg 8 - 10 Bealtaine

As Gaeilge

Description

In spite of the spring arriving so late this year, the ash has come into leaf at around the same time as it did last year. Eanna tells us how the Greenwave is moving rapidly across the country at this stage with several sightings of swallows coming in from observant users.

Gearrthóg 7 - 27 Aibreán

As Gaeilge

Description

Gerald reflects on the end of a remarkable winter which saw srping arriving very late. Although there was very heavy rain just after Easter, the month of April then settled down into a very protracted dry, cool spell. He speaks about the spectacular volcano in Iceland as well and the ash cloud that descended on Ireland keeping all the planes on the ground!

Gearrthóg 6 - 16 Aibreán

As Gaeilge

Description

At last, Spring has sprung! Eanna tells us how the swallows have eventually arrived back from their winter in Africa, a little later than last year. Also, the trees have been very slow to come into bud this year following the very harsh winter, with the horse chestnut only appearing after St. Patrick's Day.

Gearrthóg 5 - 01 Aibreán

As Gaeilge

Description

Gerald visits the Botanic Gardens and reflects on the end of the coldest winter since 1962. Despite the sudden snap in late March, the days have been getting longer and milder since St. Patrick's Day and the plants and trees are beginning to explode with growth.

Gearrthóg 4 - 15 Márta

As Gaeilge

Description

Eanna reflects on how the coldest February in 25 years has prevented the Green Wave from starting in earnest. In recent years, most Irish frogs had spawned by now but it's been much slower this year due to the particularly harsh winter.

Gearrthóg 3 - 25 Feabhra

As Gaeilge

Description

This week Gerald reflects on our recent cold weather and how this may have affected frogs and their spawn. Will we have tadpoles earlier or later than previous years?

Gearrthóg 2 - 16 Feabhra

As Gaeilge

Description

This week Éanna explains how spring has arrived to the south of the country, with both frog spawn and primroses being spotted by some of the 1,880 participating classes. She also discusses the difference between Observations and Official Records.

Tugann Gerald agus Éanna cur i láthair dúinn faoi Greenwave 2010. Féach ar an bhfíseán agus faigh amach faoi na rudaí atá i ndán chomh luath agus a thosaíonn an t-earrach.

Tá athrú aeráide ag dul i bhfeidhm ar an timpeallacht. Tomhaiseann an tionscnamh Greenwave an tslí a ngluaiseann an t-earrach aneas trasna na tíre, agus tomhaiseann sé conas a fhreagraíonn speicis áirithe do theacht an earraigh chomh maith. Is tionscnamh eolaíochta iontach do scoileanna é, mar bíonn a lán sonraí ag teastáil uainn ó scoileanna ar fud na tíre, bliain i ndiaidh bliana, ionas gur féidir linn athruithe a thabhairt faoi deara. Is maith an rud e go bhfuil na scoileanna in ann an t-eolas a bhailíonn siad a chlárú díreach ar www.greenwave.ie mar is bealach éifeachtach é seo chun an t-eolas a chur ar fáil do gach duine atá páirteach ann.

Is saineolaí ar fhiadhúlra í Éanna Ní Lamhna, a bhíonn le cloisteáil ar an gclár Mooney ar RTÉ Raidió 1.

Gerald Fleming

Agus tú ag tomhas teocht an aeir, tá an obair is bunúsaí agus is tábhachtaí sa heitéareolaíocht (meteorology) ar siúl agat. Bíonn na mílte meitéareolaithe (meteorologists) ag tomhas teocht an aeir go leanúnach, gach uair an chloig, gach áit sa domhan, ionas gur féidir linn súil a choinneáil ar cad atá ag tarlú san atmaisféar. Is mó an tábhacht atá ag na tomhais seo anois de bharr Athrú Aeráide – tá a fhios againn go bhfuil an aeráid ag athrú ar fud an domhain ach tá tomhais ó áiteanna éagsúla ag teastáil uainn chun tuiscint níos fearr a fháil ar an dúshlán mór seo don timpeallacht. Nuair a bheidh sibhse, na páistí atá páirteach i Greenwave 2008, fásta suas, beidh an aeráid in Éirinn an-difriúil ón uair a bhí bhur seantuismitheoirí óg. Cuirigí ceist orthu agus déanaigí comparáid idir an t-earrach nó an geimhreadh mar is cuimhin leo iad, agus mar a bhíonn siad anois.

Tá Gerald Fleming ag obair mar mheitéareolaí le níos mó ná 25 bliain, rud a chiallaíonn go bhfuil cairteacha aimsire le haghaidh níos mó ná 100 séasúr feicthe aige.
